ACity Students shine at the 7th Edition of Packaging Research and Innovation Challenge
Three Academic City students, Jeremy Acquaah, Sarah Amewu, and Yasin Mohammed, represented the University at the 7th Edition of the Packaging Research and Innovation Challenge (PRIC) 2025, organized by the Institute of Packaging, Ghana (IOPG) in partnership with Royal Crown Packaging Limited (RCPL).
Their research project, “Reimagining Katemfe Leaves (Sweet Prayer Plant) for Improved Biodegradable Packaging of Hot Ghanaian Foods,” received a Special Award in Sustainability. The work explored how indigenous Katemfe leaves can be adapted into safe, biodegradable packaging for hot local foods such as waakye.
By combining material research with cultural context, the team proposed a practical alternative to plastic packaging. The project supports environmental sustainability while drawing from locally available resources. Their recognition at PRIC highlights the role of student-led research in addressing everyday challenges through thoughtful, context-driven innovation.
