On June 5, the TEC team joined the Academic City Admissions team for a visit to Aburi Girls’ Senior High School in recognition of World Environment Day. The event was hosted by Project 2030 Africa, with support from Zoomlion and the Ghana Education Service.

This year’s theme, #BeatPlasticPollution, highlighted the urgent need to reduce plastic waste and its growing impact on the environment, a message that aligned closely with the day’s activities.

The visit focused on open conversations with students about climate action, innovation, and the practical ways they can contribute to sustainability efforts. We also shared a student-led exhibition featuring products created from recycled and upcycled plastic waste  all developed in our lab under the Sustain City project.

The students were curious, thoughtful, and eager to engage. Their questions showed a strong interest in the intersection of science, technology, and environmental responsibility. It was a meaningful exchange that reinforced the value of creating spaces where young people can think critically and act creatively.
