What if managing your home appliances was just a tap away?

Students at Academic City University College have made this a reality with SMART NELDI, a groundbreaking system that allows users to control devices like lights, fans, and sockets from their smartphones—anytime, anywhere.

This innovative project, designed to conserve energy and simplify appliance management, earned recognition at the prestigious Engineering Excellence Awards, organized by the Ghana Institution of Engineering.

The team—Joseph Apiriala-Atedoghu, Delasi Richards, Emmanuella Uwudia, Latif Dabone, and Nii Sodja—received support from Academic City’s Technology and Entrepreneurship Center (TEC), which provided resources, mentorship, and access to prototyping tools. TEC is now incubating the project further, helping it move beyond the pilot phase toward commercialization.

“We’re incredibly proud of our students’ ingenuity,” said Cyril Quansah-Quainoo, Public Relations Manager of Academic City. “This achievement reflects our mission to foster innovative solutions to real-world challenges.”

Stay tuned as SMART NELDI paves the way for smarter, more sustainable living!
